[앤아버=주간미시간] 김택용 기자 = 남한국학연구소(소장:곽노진 교수)가 개최한 4th Annual Perspectives on Contemporary Korean Conference에서 국내외 석학들의 주제발표가 관심을 끌었다.
7일(금) 9시, 지명관 전 한림대 교수는 Lurching toward Democracy: On the Significance of the Troubled 1970s in Modern Korean History에 대해 피력했다.
10:30분부터 열린 1차 패널 디스커션에서는 물질/소비 문화에 대한 토론이 이어졌다. 김한상 (University of California-San Diego) 의 “My” Sweet Utopia in the Next Decade: The Popular Imagination of Private Ownership during the Yushin Period”, 박은희 (University of Wisconsin-Madison)의 Kyebaram-The Culture of Money and Investment Fever in the 1970s)와 오세미 (University of Wisconsin-Madison)의 Yoido: Master Plans and Urban Dreams가 발표되었다.
2차 패널 디스커션에서는 언론 문화에 대한 조명이 있었다. Smith 대학의 김진아는 The Documentary Impulse in RAdio Cultural of the Yushin Era, Penn State University의 강인규는 Yushin as a Visual Metaphor: A Semiotic Analysis of the Fourth Republic’s Comic Art Propaganda, 미시간 대학의 IRHE Sohn은 Peripheral Vision of Yushin: Techniscope and Returned Colonial Action Heroes를 발표했다.
3차 디스커션에서는 1970년대의 문학과 대중문화에 대한 토론이 이어졌다. 이 토론회에는 조회상(Xavier 대학)의 [De]Popularizing a Confucian Master: Yushin and the Birth of Toegye Studies, 전승희(연세대학교)의 Between “Overzealous Moms” and “Laudable Mothers”: A Study on Motherhoos Discourse during South Korea’s Yushin Period, 그리고 서석배(University of California-Irvine)의 Oh, Jesus Now Here with Us: Literary Christology in 1970s and 80s South Korea가 발표되었다.
이어 8일에는 지명관 교수의 한국 현대사에 있어서의 1970년대에 대하여(민주주의를 향한 진통의 10년)에 대한 회고가 Ota Osamu 교수의 진행으로 진행되었다.
