– 트럼프, 김정은과 전세계 평화 논의할 것
트럼프 대통령은 10일 북한에 억류됐다 석방된 미국인들을 언급하며 이날 새벽 2시 세 명의 용감한 미국인들을 환영하는 믿을 수 없는 영광을 가졌다고 밝혔다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “But at 2 o’clock in the morning I had the incredible honor of greeting three brave Americans, who had been held in North Korea, and we welcomed them back home the proper way.”
트럼프 대통령은 10일 인디애나주 상원의원 선거유세에서 이날 석방된 이들을 환영한 뒤 백악관에 복귀한 게 새벽 4시30분이었고 일부 참모진들이 유세 행사를 취소하자고 했지만 그렇게 하지 않았다며 이같이 말했다.
이어 전세계의 평화와 안정이라는 미래를 추구하기 위해 다음달 12일 싱가포르에서 김정은과 만날 것이라고 밝혔다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “And on June 12th, in Singapore, I will be meeting with KJU to pursue a future of peace and security for the world, the whole world. And the relationship is good. But you remember everybody in the fake news where they were saying he is going to get us into a nuclear war, he is going to get us into a nuclear war. You know what get you into nuclear war? You know what get you into other war? Weakness. Weakness.”
이어 (북한과의) 관계가 좋다면서 ‘가짜 뉴스’의 모든 사람들이 자신이 미국을 핵 전쟁에 빠뜨릴 것이라고 말했던 것을 기억하느냐고 말했다.
이어 핵 전쟁이나 다른 전쟁이 무엇 때문에 일어나는지 아느냐고 반문하면서, 이들은 나약함 때문에 일어난다고 설명했다.
트럼프 대통령은 북한과의 관계가 좋다는 점을 재차 강조하며 전세계 모두를 위해 무언가 매우 좋은 일이 일어나길 바란다고 말했다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “So the relationship is good, and hopefully for all of us for the world, hopefully something very good is going to happen. They understand that it is very important for them, it is important for everybody, so Japan, South Korea, China, everybody, I think it is going to be a very big success.”
이어 북한은 이 부분이 자신들에게 매우 중요하다는 것을 이해하고 있고 이는 일본과 한국, 중국 등 모두에게 중요하다고 설명했다. 이어 (미-북 회담은) 매우 큰 성공이 될 것 같다고 덧붙였다.
하지만 만약 그렇지 않다면 그렇지 않은 것으로 받아들일 태도를 갖고 있다며 어떤 일이 생길지 모르기 때문에 이런 태도를 갖고 있어야 한다고 강조했다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “But my attitude is, if it isn’t? it isn’t. Okay? If it isn’t? it isn’t. But you have to have that, because you don’t know. We are not going to be walk in to Iran Deal where the negotiator John Kerry refused to leave the table. What a deal. What a deal.”
이어 미국은 협상가였던 존 케리 당시 국무장관이 협상 테이블을 떠나기를 거절했던 이란 핵 합의의 전철을 밟지 않을 것이라고 설명했다.
트럼프 대통령은 북한에 억류됐다 석방된 미국인들을 다시 언급한 뒤 김정은은 이런 행동을 통해 자신과 자신의 국가에 훌륭한 일을 했다고 말했다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Last night you saw it, and again, it is leading to some very big thing. I think that KJU, KJU, did a great service to himself to his country by doing this. But those hostages came out with respect, we didn’t pay for them. We are going to set the table, we are going to make a great deal, for the world, for North Korea, for South Korea, Japan, for China.”
그러면서 북한에 억류됐던 인질들은 존중 받으며 풀려났고 미국은 어떤 비용도 지불하지 않았다고 강조했다. 이어 미국은 북한과 한국, 일본, 중국 등 전세계를 위한 (협상) 테이블을 마련하고 있고 훌륭한 협상을 할 것이라고 덧붙였다.
또한 김정은이 한 행동은 올바른 일이었다며 북한에서 풀려난 미국인들은 아무 대가 없이 풀려났다고 거듭 강조했다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “So what he did was a right thing. But they came out for nothing. And other came out for $1.8B in cash. Can you believe that?”
이어 지난 오바마 행정부에서 이란에 억류됐던 인질들을 석방할 때 현금으로 18억 달러를 지불했다고 지적했다.
